Video modeling can assist in learning and retaining positive behaviors. However, most video modeling systems are not mobile and therefore may not provide model support at the times and places most needed. VidCoach, which allows individuals to watch peer model videos as well as record their own videos for self-evaluation and improvement anytime anywhere through an iOS app (on an iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad).
The VidCoach application supports peer modeling and self-modeling (using the forward facing camera on the iOS device, so that users can record themselves). Additionally, users have the option of using prompts that provide insight into what to do next and quiz users on what just happened. .
Upon opening the VidCoach application, users are presented with an interface through which they can select a category of videos to watch and practice. Currently, job interviews are the only videos that come pre-loaded with the app, but we are working on scenarios as well as a Spanish language version. Each video is broken up into smaller segments or sub-tasks. In the case of a job interview video, these sub-tasks correspond to questions asked in the interview. Users can choose to watch a video in its entirety, or choose to watch a single segment.
This work has been done in collaboration with researchers and students at UCI as well as with CareerLink at the Irvine Unified School District.
You can download the app for free in the Apple App Store. If you like it, please rate it.
We are working on versions for Android and Blackberry.
